The Hunter-Gatherer Mobility and Subsistence in the Yorkshire Dales Research Project completed its seventh season of fieldwork during the months of July and August 2001. The principal aim of the project is to test hypotheses regarding hunter-gatherer mobility and subsistence strategies during the Mesolithic in northern England. Other aims include identification of the particular economic resources utilised by these hunter-gatherers in the uplands, and evaluation of the impact of bioturbation on archaeological sites within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This international research project is organised by the University of Bradford and Michigan State University and is supported by various funding bodies.

Our principal activities during previous field season have included a cave survey, a cave excavation, the excavation of sites around Malham Tarn and an extensive transect survey across the research area.
Last season we conducted our surveying and excavating in a small area in the Ribble Valley near Stainforth. During this period three new Mesolithic sites were excavated and currently this material is being analysed further in our research lab.
