AVPI Impact of Armed Violence on Poverty
Part of the Armed Violence and Povery Initiative. The objective of the study was not only to advance and clarify understandings and knowledge in this area, which has been largely neglected in policy and research, but also to inform programme design and evaluation.
The main indicators were:
- Impoverishment through displacement.
- Differentiated impacts by gender and vulnerability.
- The damaging of macro-economic activities including production, exports, public finances and social services.
- Damage to education and health.
- Livelihood alterations and depletion.
- The emergence of exploitative, alternative political economies.
- Damage to social capital and coping strategies
- The objective of the study was not only to advance and clarify understandings and knowledge in this area, which has been largely neglected in policy and research, but also to inform programme design and evaluation.
