Conflict Resolution: Concepts, Processes and Skills This course provides an account and assessment of the field of conflict resolution, defined both as an academic and as a practical and applied pursuit. The history and central concepts of conflict resolution are introduced and examined in a series of case studies. This module deals with international conflict and civil wars and provides and analysis of the variety of intervention strategies available within the conflict resolution approach.
The first part of the course is concerned with intrastate or domestic conflict and provides and opportunity for students to develop practical skills through participation in a set of exercises concerned with communication, co-operation, mediation and problem-solving in a set of simulated conflicts. The second part of the course offers a critical review of the conflict resolution field, engaging with contemporary debates and non-western perspectives. A variety of teaching methods, including lectures, small group work and presentations, role plays and simulations will be used.
Conflict Resolution Simulation ExerciseThe MA classes and members of the Royal Military Police from Catterick Garrison participate in the annual simulation exercise, "Humanitarian Aid Delivery in War Zones: Case Study- Srebrenica, Bosnia-Hercegovina, 1993."
