B.D.S. Dund., PhD Brad.
Dr Lewer has been working in villages in the conflict zones of
Eastern Sri Lanka as part of the Department for International Development (DFID) research programme into Complex Political Emergencies (COPE). Key research questions fall under two
broad headings: assessing the effect that long-term violence is having on these communities, and secondly, looking at the impact NGOs have had in such situations and identifying opportunities for
them to foster probabilities for peace. Dr Lewer joined the Centre in 1990, and was appointed as a lecturer in the Department in 1997. Dr. Lewer plays a key role in developing the field work of
the Centre, and in the development of an applied role internationally. He also heads the Non-Lethal Weapons research programme.
