The IRC Polymer Process Engineering
Laboratory is housed in the University of Bradford School of Engineering,
Department of Mechanical & Medical Engineering - a highly rated
research department, and forms a major focal point for polymer processing
research in the UK.
This has been made possible by substantial funding from Government
and Industry in the UK and overseas - almost every item of equipment
has been obtained through industrial collaboration.
A major step forward occured 1989, with the award of the Interdisciplinary
Research Centre in Polymer Science and Technology to the Universities
of Leeds, Bradford & Durham. This provided capital for laboratory
refurbishment and 'seed' capital for new equipment, which has been
expanded by significant industrial contributions, and University
support. We have continued to build on this, and have a thriving,
active and internationally known polymer processing research programme.
The Polymer Process Engineering laboratory forms an 'academic technical
centre', dedicated to internationally recognised research on: polymer
processing, polymer rheology, process monitoring and control process
analysis and computer modelling, all of which has application and
relevance to manufacturing industry. Our goals are to advance scientific
and engineering knowledge in these areas, to disseminate the information
by high quality routes, and to transfer this knowledge to industry.
Many aspects of our research are interdisciplinary by nature, involving
fruitful collaboration with other academic areas across traditional
academic boundaries.
