Bradford Peace Studies Professor and internationally-recognised security expert, Paul Rogers has produced monthly reports scrutinising developments during the occupation of Iraq, which have become standard source material for journalists, policymakers and campaigners. A specialist in Persian Gulf security and terrorism and political violence, his analysis links socio-economic divisions, environmental constraints and international insecurity.
This lecture follows the recent publication on Paul’s new book, Iraq and The War of Terror – Twelve Months of Insurgency, copies of which will be available at a generous discount. Originally produced in association with the Oxford Research Group, this book brings his reports on occupied Iraq together for the first time to provide an authoritative, and disturbing, picture – of coalition forces repeatedly misreading the direction of the insurgency; of radicals at the hands of the occupying forces; and of the US locked into a destructive and ultimately counter-productive war in the Middle East because of its determination to secure Persian Gulf oil and gas resources.
The lecture will be held in the John Stanley Bell Lecture Theatre, room D4 in the Richmond Building at 1pm on Wednesday, 16, November 2005. For details about this location, please see the map of the main campus.
