Fred Halliday taught International Relations at LSE from 1983 to 2008. He is now ICREA Research Professor at IBEI, the Barcelona Institute for International Studies. His work covers International Relations theory, the history and sociology of revolutions and the politics of the Middle East. Among his publications are Rethinking International Relations, Revolution and World Politics: the Rise and Fall of the Sixth Great Power, The Middle East in International Relations. Professor Halliday is currently working on a study of language and politics in the Middle East, and on a re-examination of the possiblities and pre-conditions, for internationalism in the twenty-first century. In 2002, he was elected a fellow of the British Academy.
