Experts' Meeting, June 2005

The TWE project team held an experts' meeting in June 2005. The sponsor of the event, the International Peace Academy, has produced a report on the papers and discussions (PDF) that took place over the three day meeting. This was conducted in partnership with the International Peace Academy as part of the Security-Development Nexus Programme. Participants included the TWE team members, other academics, practitioners and UN staff. The conference discussed the key themes and case studies of the research in order to influence next steps for the team.

TWE Team Meeting, November 2005

TWE Team Meeting, University of Bradford, 8 November 2005. This was to review work in progress and discuss the special issue of Conflict, Security and Development, edited by Neil Cooper and Mike Pugh. Jeremy Ginifer reported on his recent work in Northern Uganda and how IDP (internally displaced people) camps were proving a source of income for the rebels. Jenny Pearce spoke about her work on oil and conflict in Colombia. Mandy Turner outlined the controversy surrounding DFID, private consultants and the water privatisation agenda in Sierra Leone. And Neil Cooper presented his recent paper, “Picking through the pieces of the liberal peaces”, published in Security Dialogue, which assesses different perspectives on the ‘liberal peace’.
