Frequently Asked Questions

What will I have to bring with me to Bradford?

Bring with you things that will help you make your room in to your home from home.

You will need to bring your own bedding, towels, crockery, cutlery, pans, cooking utensils and cleaning materials.

If you are unable to bring bedding or cooking utensils with you please don’t worry as bedding and cooking packs are available through ‘Just Shop’ which are located in Atrium in Richmond Building and in the Student Central Building.

Shopping trips to IKEA are also arranged by the Students' Union during the year.

What about cleaning?

All the accommodation is self-catered and residents are responsible for cleaning their individual rooms and sharing in the cleaning of the communal areas, i.e. shared kitchens, living area, bathrooms, corridors, stairs, entrance lobby areas and removing waste.

It is expected that residents will maintain a good standard of cleanliness throughout the townhouse or apartment. Inspections are carried out at regular intervals and in the case of significant un-cleanliness, residents may be charged for the cleaning of these areas.

What equipment is in the kitchen?

All kitchens are supplied with cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge/freezer and storage cupboards. Also provided are iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, dustpan and brush, and a mop and bucket, general waste and recycling bins, fire safety equipment.

Can I get a meal on campus?

If you don't always feel like cooking for yourself, you can buy meals from the University's catering outlets, situated around the campus.

How near are the shops and supermarkets?

Student Shops are located in The Atrium, Richmond Building and Student Central which sell everything from bread and milk to stationery and toiletries. There are also a good range of shops, restaurants, pubs, supermarket and a chemist within 10 minutes walk of the city campus.

Where can I do my washing?

For students living in The Green there is a coin-operated launderette facility (washers and dryers) located on the first floor of The Orchard Building in the village. Vernon Barnby Hall is also supplied with a similar facility area.

Can I smoke?

The University campus and all accommodation, both internal and external areas are designated as No Smoking. There is a designated smoking area on the Ampitheatre by the Student Central Building at the city campus and at designated points in The Green.

Where's the nearest Health Centre?

A Student Health Centre is available on Laisteridge Lane, just 5 minutes walk away from city campus. It is recommended that all resident students register with the service as soon as possible after arrival. The Centre provides a confidential comprehensive healthcare service.

Are there any wardens to support student residents?

A team of resident wardens will live in The Green. There will be two Senior Wardens and four Student Wardens. Their role is to help students settle into University life and provide advice and information. Each evening/night and throughout the weekend there is Senior and Student Wardens on duty to assist with any problems or concerns students may have and Senior Wardens will hold a weekly surgery on Wednesday evenings.

When you have accepted your accommodation offer, arrival information will be e-mailed to you.
