Detailed description of the request: In the ALU section, could SAINT allow the possibility of adding photos? At the moment, if an alumni has not got a photo when the ALU record is created, it is not possible to add one at all. I have photos for some of the pre-SAINT students which I'd like to add. Thanks. |

When retrieving students from the QSU screen, there is a specific SRL that can be run called REG BIOSHEET. one of the courses within Life Sciences still puts this information into the student file for the academics. However, is it at all possible that this sheet could be re-formatted and include their A level and or admissions qualifications. This would save an enormous amount of work which has to be done because of the Widening participation agenda for this specific course. |

To consider adding student status to the Board of Examiners Report. It is not only 'current' students on the reports, we have 'withdrawn' and 'current without attendance' on and it would be useful to be able to identify their status in the Examination Board. As an administrator in the Board, I am frequently asked to the student status, by identifying them on the report would make it obvious to all members and also for future reference. |

Request in relation to e:vision result letters: 1. To display previous result letters, not just the latest one, so the student has an archive of their letters. Although the Dept would like some control over being able to NOT display individual letters relating to a specific SPI if possible, in cases where an error has occurred - could there be some kind of tickbox on the SPI to make it available/not available? 2. To make the area where the result letter is displayed more prominent and clearer about where it is. 3. A message to appear in the student's inbox in e:vision when a result letter has been uploaded. |

We have had a query from a member of academic staff with regards to Erasmus exchange students. Our students go to an institution overseas and the marks they achieve there count as their stage two marks here. They are allocated module codes which are specifically for exchange modules. These module marks show on the students result letter which is available on e:vision, however, they do not show up on the - view module results¿ section of e:vision. It is felt that, as this contributes towards their degree, this should be shown on all areas of e:vision.
This was put in as a SAINT job in December 2009 (job number TL090022). Advice is that a PMR should be requested. Notes from SAINT team:
"Does the system always look at SMC records to calculate a students progression/award mark; what if the SMC is just part of the credit count? Is it the 'same' SRL that runs when we agree a student's SPI record, but without the progression/award info? Should the SRL just concentrate on SMC records? How often/when should it be 'published'?"

On e-vision there is a link available called 'Staff View of Progression/Award Information'. This is useful, but could be much more useful.
Staff are often requested to provide an academic reference for students. Unfortunately they do not accept the existing letter, as it does not say it is an academic reference. Potential employers want a 'letter of reference' which details more or less everything available on the aforementioned link, but want it to clearly state that it is a reference.
My request is to clearly state on this generated letter words to the effect of say:
"This is an academic reference for this student, and it includes a statement of academic achievement".
It should also make it very clear what course the student has passed and at what level. It should be unambiguous as to whether the student has passed or failed.
Employers will accept this as an academic reference if only it actually said so on the letter.
The reason for this request is to save me and a large number of other staff so much time regenerating the same details as the 'link', but with the 'academic reference' words included.
For note: A personal reference is a different matter, where I would comment on a student from a personal perspective. The 'academic reference' is a clear unambiguous statement from the university confirming that the letter is a reference, that the student passed the stated course, and at what level, with module results.

It would be useful if a student has transferred courses, particularly mid-year then on QSV it shows that they have transferred. For example: currently a student in 2009/0 who transfers at the start of semester two to another course in the same Department, would have a 2009/0 row with just the new route code on. It would be useful if they had two rows; one with the previous route code and a CT flag and one with the new route code and a C flag. At the moment it is impossible to tell from that screen whether a student has been on the same route for the whole year or has transferred.
Thanks |
It would be useful to have this as soon as possible |

I have previously used SIGMA but for some reason this year it wouldn¿t work, it had a bug, so I had to look at alternatives. Kirsten explained that there was no other similar report and advised me to use SAR report 4. I have used this but:
- It creates a huge amount of paper
- It is harder to get a ¿glance¿ view
- Is it harder to compare students within the cohort
This is a report that I use to identify students that have performance badly in semester one, advise the students that they will/may have supplementary assessment to do, advise them to contact tutors if having problems. The report is also used by key members of staff in the Department, eg: course chairs and course tutors, so they can also chase up these students and make sure they are ok.
I have asked the other administrators whether they do something similar and also what reports they use and have received the following responses:
Jane Gibb, EDT:
I used Basil and Busca (its still working) to see how the students have performed in Semester 1 and used this, aswell as attendance data, for the award of bursaries.
Ele Cosgrove, SSIS:
I also used to use the SIGMA report which I found to be really useful. We stopped using it a couple of years ago when we stopped using SIGMA for exam boards and have had to resort to some quite intensive individual input to get any useful information together.
I agree the SAR report isn't very useful - especially if you have large numbers of students.
Sue Ledger, SLED:
We currently don't examine the semester 1 results in any depth but we should and so it would be great to have a report to use alongside our attendance information.
Claire Edwards, Life Sciences:
would be really useful for us
Rosemary Day, Peace Studies:
We have just created a spreadsheet showing all students with marks below a certain level or no marks at all and sent through to our BA support person (academic) who will now set up meetings with them to help them improve. I use the SAR screen and just go through them on an individual basis and list all the ones I think will need additional support. We then just create a spreadsheet separating them via Level.
It would appear a number of School undertake this exercise but that there isn¿t a report which assists us in compiling this information easily. To this end, could I request that the team look at a report, either through SAINT or Business Objects, that would help with assessing semester one performance of students. Do I need to put in a PMR?

Could we use the feature of e:vision/SITS which lets students choose their options online? This would cut out a lot of paper waste and tie in with the fact that results are now available via e:vision. |

The School of Management has a number of modules that have pre- and co-requisit modules associated with them. At present it does not seem possible to check whether students registered to take a module have fulfilled (or are fulfilling in the case of co-requisits) these requirements.
The request is that an automatic report be enabled/designed on the SAINT system that allows pre- and co-requisit requirements to be checked. (or that flags students without the required pre-/co-requisits) |

A number of academic staff have requested that when inputting their marks on e:vision that they can see the overall mark once and not just component marks. I assume that they cannot see overall marks until I have calculated and set them on SAINT, but wondered if there was any other way for them to see this information. |
|
08/06/2010 |
The overall mark is not calculated at this point it is a seperate stage. It is possible to run the Calculate and Set function via e:Vision but if this option is turned on it is turned on for everyone. I think this needs to go to the SAINT Forum for more discussion. |

There is a need for the University letterhead to be available for inclusion in SRL letters.
This would enable complete letters to be produced and emailed overseas, or in the UK, without the need for printing and scanning as at present.
How possible is this and would be letterheadings be in colour or black and white. |
|
|
This would probably have to be agreed with Corporate Comms as the logo etc is designed by them. most SRLs that are letters include a gap at the top as they are deisigned to be printed on headed paper. Not sure if there is anything to be gained with this, will ask the SAINT Forum. 22/06/10 |
