Industrial Visits

BUStA Committee are pleased to announce that this year we will be running two industrial visits:

  1. Norton Motorcycles in Derby - Friday 15th July
Norton are a motorcycle manufacturer based in the grounds of the Castle Donnington raceway. Whilst the current company started in 2008, the history and heritage of this great British manufacturer extend all the way back to it’s inception in 1898. BUStA have been fortunate to negotiate the waiving of a £20 fee for this visit. We will leave Bradford at 8:30am, arriving at Norton around 10:30am. Following the tour we will then take the short journey to Nottingham for the remainder of the day. We depart for Bradford at 6pm, back in Bradford for 7:30pm.

  2. New Balance Sportswear in Flimby - Wednesday 10 August
New Balance are perhaps most famous for their sports footwear. Originally founded in Boston in the US, the first UK factory was opened in 1982 to meet a growing demand for products in the UK and Europe. Increased production has seen the factory relocate twice, its current factory in Flimby, Maryport being one of the foremost manufacturing operations anywhere in the world. We leave Bradford at 8am for the journey to the Cumbrian coast. Following the tour we will then head back to Windermere for the remainder of the afternoon, leaving at 6pm to arrive back in Bradford at around 8pm. Due to the itinerary you may wish to bring a packed lunch.

In both cases our hosts have kindly agreed to waive any charge for the visit, and BUStA will be making a donation to a nominated charity on their behalf. The committee thanks our hosts for their generosity.

Unfortunately, both of our hosts have had to impose a strict limitation to 16 places, so we would advise all who are interested to act swiftly to book their place on the coach.

The cost for each trip has been held at 2010 prices, £12 for members and £15 for guests and tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis. Committee members will be in the Common Room on Thursday 30th of June at 12:30pm to take bookings – please note that full payment will be required at the time of booking, and no applications will be accepted before that time.

Remember that you may need line manager approval if you intend not to use personal leave to participate in an Industrial Visit.
