EcoversityAs part of the University of Bradfords drive to reduce it's carbon footprint, the Estates and Facilities team recently invested in a new post van. Known to many on campus as the "Eco-Van", it is electrically powered and charged from a 13 amp 240 V socket.
Simon Duarri (based in Estates and Facilities) has lead this initiative and is looking to further develop this project through investigating the feasibility of setting up solar panels linked to the national grid to make the van completely zero carbon (i.e. we charge from the grid but off set with the power generated by the panels fed back into the grid). The van is cleaner, quieter and cheaper to run than any diesel van. The body is plastic composite and the chassis is aluminium which makes it fairly light.
Derek Lister, who drives the van around the campus says "The van is great for getting about campus".
As appropriate to a University campus and it's low energy use, the van moves at a slower pace than a standard car. As such Derek is appreciative of your patience when driving behind him.
