Finance (SSV)

The cost of developing the sustainable student village is estimated to be in the region of £22-25m. However, in pursuit of best value, these costs will be rigorously scrutinised as part of the design competition where the emphasis will not only include innovative design and sustainability principles, but will also address affordability.

We anticipate using whole-life cost as a major tool in determining the design and affordability of the development. Whole-life cost accounting involves totaling the initial capital cost of the construction, operation and maintenance of the building and plant, plus the replacement and demolition cost at the end of life, to determine a
true life-time build and operating cost as opposed to a simply capital cost.

There are also extensive sources of grant funding within the UK and Europe for the sustainable student village project from which we will be seeking supporting investment
