REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
The practice has a repeat prescribing system that enables patients
to request medication that they need on an ongoing basis without
having to see a doctor or nurse each time. To be able to request
prescriptions using this system the patient must have seen a doctor
or nurse in THIS practice to authorise the medication. When you see
the doctor or nurse they will prescribe your medication for you and
will note in your medical records that it is available on repeat
You will be given a repeat medication request slip which will have the details of your medication as well as a review date. When you see the doctor or nurse to have your medication prescribed they will explain about the review date. They will also tell you how to obtain your medication through the repeat prescription system
How
to use our repeat prescribing system
On the request form tick the box for the medication you require. If you have lost your repeat form then a blank slip is available at reception. We do not allow telephone, fax or e-mail requests as they can lead to prescription errors
The form must then be handed over the counter to the receptionist. If you are posting your request to us please enclose a stamped and self-addressed envelope to enable us to return it to you. Remember the whole process may take up to a week by post
Please check that the review date has not expired, if it has you may need to make an appointment to see the doctor or nurse to have your medication and condition reviewed. When you give your request slip to the receptionist they will check that the review date has not expired. The receptionist will then tell you when you may collect your prescription
If your review date has expired the receptionist will tell you how to go about obtaining a further prescription. This may involve making an appointment with the nurse or doctor. If you need your medication before that appointment please tell the receptionist and they will organise what to do next
Repeat medications can only be issued through this system if the medication has been prescribed and authorised as a repeat by the doctor or nurse here in this practice. We cannot issue repeat medications which have been authorised by another doctor
