COURSE FOR CLINICAL PRACTIONERS

The School of Health Studies organised a three-day course at Heaton Mount for clinical practitioners working with people with learning disabilities who experience mental health disorders.

The course explored and developed knowledge and skills previously gained in the work place. Dr Raghu Raghaven, of the School of Health Studies, said: "This course was aimed at health and social care professionals in the field of learning disability or those who provide therapeutic services for people with learning disabilities."

The course covered a range of mental health and learning disability issues including specific disorders, assessment issues, therapeutic interventions and effective service models.

Keynote speakers included Dr Raghu Raghavan, lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing at the School of Health Studies, and Dr Pradip Patel, Consultant Psychiatrist working with adults with a learning disability.
