GRAHAM ROCK DIES OF CANCER AGED 56

Founding editor of the Racing Post and former Bradford University student, Graham Rock, has died, aged 56.

Graham, who was latterly racing correspondent for The Observer and a member of the BBC television racing team, passed away following a four-year battle against cancer.

Graham's career in racing and writing began in the early 1970s after attending the University. By 1972 he was on the staff at Timeform, in Halifax.

He then joined the Sporting Chronicle where, in 1982, he became senior writer. When the Chronicle ceased publication he went to Hong Kong to be stipendiary steward.

In 1985, Graham was invited to help play a critical role in setting up the Racing Post by becoming its editor. When he decided it was time to leave he operated as a freelancer for a short time until the BBC snapped him up as a part of its television commentary team.

Graham appeared as a betting pundit and, more recently, as a paddock judge and commentator. He then started to write reports for The Observer where he became senior correspondent.
