SPOTLIGHT ON HEALTH SERVICES IN BRADFORD

Professor Neil Small.Bradford's achievements in improving health services in the district were showcased at a conference organised by the University and the National Health Service. Delegates from around the country attended the event to learn from the district's experience.

Professor in Community and Primary Care in the School of Health Studies, Professor Neil Small (pictured left), said: "The conference offered an opportunity to see those involved in community and primary care in Bradford and Airedale working together."

One year ago, the Bradford District was at the forefront of setting up Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) - new NHS organisations brought in by the Government to help improve services. PCTs assess the health needs of the population and make sure the right health services are available to meet those needs.

The Bradford district has four PCTs. The district was one of the first in the country to have all its PCTs set up at the same time. The highlight of the event was the keynote speech by Minister of State for Health, John Hutton.
