Seminar attracts interest from South Asian textile companiesThe University's Centre of Objective Measurement and Innovative Technologies (COMIT) recently contacted Bradford-based QED, which helps improve the social, educational and economic circumstances of South Asian communities, to organise a seminar to attract interest from South Asian textile companies. The resulting event, which was sponsored by the Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber and hosted by Chairman of the Textile Sector, Edward Stanners, was such a success QED now hopes South Asian textile companies will join a local textile body. COMIT, which is part of the Department of Industrial Technology, works with the region's textile manufacturers to improve efficiencies through the use of Objective Measurement Technologies. During the seminar, Technology Transfer Manager, of Business Services and Regional Development, Melanie Powell, presented details of TCS, the STEP scheme and the Industrial placement opportunities available via the University. It is hoped that a further textile seminar hosted by COMIT will take place during the autumn. COMIT will also play a part in this year's World Cup after testing the fabric which will be used to make the official off-the-pitch suits for the England team. Bradford-based textile company Clissolds, with which COMIT collaborates on a regular basis on quality control, is to manufacture the team's World Cup 2002 suits. And all eyes will be the squad when they sport the fabric made in Bradford. The navy fabric has already been woven and is designed to withstand the hot and humid conditions overseas.
