New. ICE - advice for staff

Staff may have heard about this initiative following the disaster in London.

8 out of 10 British people carry no next of kin details. Yet 80% carry a mobile phone, most of whom have it on them all the time.

There is no simpler way of letting the emergency services know who to contact should you be involved in an accident than by using ICE.

Standing for In Case of Emergency, ICE will allow ambulance crews and police officers to quickly contact a nominated person who can be informed of the incident.

  • Type the acronym ICE followed by a contact name (for example, ICE - mum or ICE - David) into the address book of your mobile phone
  • Save their phone number
  • Tell your ICE contact that you have nominated them

For full details visit the ICE Website (external link will open in a new window)

New. Glazing Repairs to the Main Staircase of Richmond building
Tuesday 19th July 2005

It will be necessary to restrict access to the main staircase of Richmond building due to the possibility of pieces of glass falling from the damaged glazing as it is removed.

This work will be carried commencing 11:00am Tuesday 19th July and should be finished the same day.

In the event of an Emergency or Fire Alarm the staircase should be used as a means of escape from the building.

Please contact Keith Maven on ext 3437 or Derek Mason on ext 3439 if you have any queries regarding these works.

New. Incoming Bottom Barrier - Richmond Road (update)

I would just like to remind staff that with effect from Friday 15th July 2005, the incoming bottom barrier in Richmond Road will be out of service until further notice.

The reason for this is due to the barrier developing certain technical problems and we cannot guarantee that it will stay in the air during the operating process. Thus vehicles might not have cleared the area before it drops down and potentially this could cause damage and injury. Therefore, as a safety precaution, the barrier is being kept closed until it can be repaired which we expect to have completed by the start of the new academic year.

Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Thank you

Michael Habergham, Security and Emergency Services.
