Graduate Awarded Alderman
honour
Former
employee and graduate of the University, Moira Dunn, was recently rewarded
by Leeds City Council for her longstanding commitments and service to
the community.
Moira, aged 72, received
the honorary title of Alderman for the City of Leeds at a ceremony in
Leeds City Hall earlier this year.

Although she currently
serves on the University Court her links with the University go back to
1976 when she was first employed in the Department of Colour Chemistry.
She later returned to the University as a student in 1982. She graduated
with a BSc in Political Sciences in 1985 and used her studies to go on
and start a career in the Labour Party.
Moira said: "The
experience I gained through my studies in Political Sciences courses at
both Ruskin College, Oxford, and the University of Bradford, helped me
tremendously. It gave me the confidence to go out, meet the public, serve
on committees and eventually become Chair of Adult Services. I was also
nominated to the Court of the University and have served one-and-a-half
terms representing Leeds City Council.
"Earlier this year
I retired from the Council having served the community for 12 years. I
was delighted and honoured that Leeds City Council decided to honour me
in this way. It is a great privilege."
