'Health of older people: research
perspectives'
Older
people need to be given a voice if services are to meet needs in health
care, according to Age Concern's National Development Manager Chris Bain.
Chris was the keynote
speaker at the Institute for Health Research's sixth Annual Research Conference
on the health of older people, held at the University's School of Management.
During his speech,
he addressed the strategic issues in service planning and delivery, particularly
around leadership, and emphasised the need to listen to older people's
views if services are to meet needs.
Over 100 people attended
the event which included academics and health professionals and managers
from primary, community and secondary sectors of health and social care
from across the country.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor
Chris Taylor, opened the conference highlighting older people as the main
users of health and social care services and therefore a government priority
for practice and research.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor
and Co-Chair of the Institute's Executive Committee Professor Jeff Lucas
said: "The annual conference helped to strengthen links between research
and practice and brought together people from a variety of backgrounds
to share good practice."
