International Scholarships
Students Reception
New
international undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University
were recently awarded scholarships on the grounds of academic merit, worth
half the overseas tuition fee.
The scholarships attract
high-quality candidates from many courses and, with more than 600 applicants
from 12 countries, there was very strong competition for the 20 scholarships
offered.
At the special ceremony
to award the students their scholarship certificates, Dr Haydn Bartlett,
Head of the University's International Office, said: "We are very pleased
to be able to support these high-flying international students in this
way, and hope that the scholarship students feel justly proud of their
achievement".
One of the international
students awarded the scholarship is computing undergraduate, Mohammed
Mehdi Haider.
When asked why he
was keen to become a student at the University, Mohammed said: "I wanted
to do computing because the course is accredited by the British Computer
Society and this will stand me in good stead for the future."
He added: "The University
of Bradford is also a great place for me as I am a keen cricketer and
the University is a designated National Centre of Cricketing Excellence."
Brent Bullock, scholarship
student in the Department of Optometry, said: "Being from Trinidad and
after studying in Florida, I'm having a hard time dealing with the weather
but apart from that, I'm really enjoying living in Bradford. The Optometry
course I'm studying was recommended to me by final-year students and I
find it has excellent practical opportunities and training - especially
with the clinics."
