Secret
Santa comes to town
Young and old in need
in Bradford joined in the Christmas spirit this year thanks to the generosity
of hundreds of staff and students from the University.
Bradford Foyer were
the first to receive 35 gift bags for its 16- to 25- year old students
as part of the University's UCAN Secret Santa 2002 collection. Fifty food
hampers were also provided for elderly and house-bound residents of Odsal.
And 100 children's toys were collected, gift wrapped and presented to
Sutton Community Housing Association for distribution after the annual
pantomime in January.
A spokespreson for
Bradford Foyer said the group wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a
happy new year, adding: "Thank you for the brilliant presents. Everyone
was really surprised at how good they were and how well chosen. It was
kind of those involved to take so much time and trouble to bag and wrap
things up so nicely."
The UCAN Volunteer
Project Co-ordinator, Caroline Chambers, also expressed her gratitude
to staff and students who made contributions, giving a special mention
to staff on E floor, Richmond Building.
UCAN is the University's
volunteering scheme and encompasses a wide range of volunteering activities
throughout the year. The scheme is funded by the Higher Education Active
Community Fund. Secret Santa is run in partnership with Business in the
Community's 'Bradford Cares.'
