Membership of Professional Body for Language Unit

The University's Language Unit has been accepted as an institutional member of the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP).

The growing number of international students in the University has led to a rapid growth in the English tuition provided by the Language Unit. Part of this growth is due to the introduction of a new course - the year-long International Foundation Programme, which in its first year has 72 full-time students.

BALEAP is a national organisation of centres where EAP (English for Academic Purposes) is taught within British Universities.

Its aims are to improve the English language provision for international students in the UK and to promote and support the professional development and status of staff.

BALEAP members are listed in its literature.
