PIONEERING LINK IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Total Quality Management logo. The European Centre for Total Quality Management at the University's School of Management has formed a trail-blazing link with one of the world's top oil producers by securing the first lectureship of its kind with the company.

The post-holder will lecture in Total Quality Management (TQM) for the globally-recognised Abu Dhabi Company for the Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO), partly owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, in a project that will result in £40,000 per annum for the University over a three-year period.

Professor Mohammed Zairi, SABIC Professor of Best Practice Management, said: "This is the first externally sponsored post in the United Arab Emirates, and the first time the company has worked with an academic institution in this way. Previously the company had sent its managers to be trained at business schools. So this position is really breaking the mould."

The position-holder will run workshops and design practices and systems at Bradford to raise awareness of TQM, as well as giving assistance on an ad-hoc basis to trouble-shoot for ADCO.

They will also conduct research on best practice and gather information that will be useful for the company.

Professor Zairi said: "We are very excited by this development. We have a history of associations with the petro-chemical industry, and have built a reputation and track records in that area that others would be envious of."
