He said "I am, of course, delighted to take on this role. The relationship between archaeology and the environment in the past and present is a strong one. The School is well placed to take advantage of this in terms of new research and teaching initiatives and in outreach activities. Staff within the School are active in numerous regional, national and international agendas. I will do what I can to co-ordinate and promote the efforts of all the staff and students within the School." Carl is a Bradford graduate having received a Bachelor's degree in Archaeological Sciences in 1984. He then spent four years at University College, Cardiff before moving to the University of Liverpool. Although he was based in the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry respectively, he continued to work on the molecular identification of amorphous organic remnant in the archaeological record. He returned to Bradford in 1990 as Lecturer in Archaeological Sciences. In his spare time, Carl has taken up running half and full marathons. He completed the Paris Marathon earlier in the year and more are planned for 2002. He also tries to find time to keep up with Ipswich Town's continued success in the Premiership.
