BRADFORD DEMENTIA GROUP RECEIVES GRANT

Project Leader Davod Coates.Bradford Dementia Group, based at the School of Health Studies, has been awarded a £213,900 grant to run support groups for family caregivers.

The National Health Action Zone Innovation Grant will support carers from minority ethnic groups who are caring for a person with dementia. The three year study aims to provide support of people with dementia from three ethnic groups; Indian, East European and African Caribbean, and who are living in the Bradford area.

Project Leader, David Coates (pictured left), said: "The support groups will provide information about dementia care and other services. Participants will also have the opportunity to share experiences with other carers. A free sitting service and free transport will be available for the person with dementia to enable carers to attend the groups.

"One outcome of this project will be the production of culturally sensitive learning materials for support group facilitators to use in the future in English and, as necessary, in Community languages."
