RARE LIBRARY ARCHIVE ON DISPLAY AT WEST YORKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE
Left to right: Lucy Hird from West Yorkshire Playhouse and Specialist Collections Librarian Alison Cullingford with Priestley's trademark pipes. Highlights include performances of 'Johnson over Jordan', 'Dangerous Corner' and 'Eden End', plus a conference looking at Priestley's artistic legacy, a retrospective of Priestley films and a selection of script-in-hand performances of his plays. Visitors to the Playhouse until November 2001 will be able to see the exhibition 'J B Priestley on Stage and Screen', which illustrates the varying interpretations of Priestley's play in the UK and abroad. Items from the University's collection include a rare poster and photograph album from Russian productions in the 1940s, playscripts and historic programmes and some of Priestley's trademark pipes. Special Collections Librarian, Alison Cullingford, said: "J B Priestley in his work for the theatre and his huge literary output was not only entertaining but also tackled themes including social change, peace and time and mortality. We are very pleased to be involved with the welcome attempt by the Playhouse to make the variety of Priestley's works and the scope of his interests better known." For further information about
