WelcomeThe recent tragic events in the United States have touched each and every one of us within the University, especially as many of us have friends, colleagues or know of associates living in the US. The depth of feeling was demonstrated when hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects to the families of victims during a three minutes silence in the Richmond Building. Although this edition of News and Views was written before last month's terrorist attack, many of the stories reflect the University's links with organisations from all over the world. The continued forging of these special relationships highlights the University's commitment to international relations in the face of terrorism. Space mission projects with NASA and the British Antarctic Survey are discussed in an in-depth interview with PhD student Emma Newton, and we reveal the experiences of Peace Studies MA students in war-torn Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the European Centre for Total Quality Management has formed a trail-blazing link with one of the world's top oil producers in Abu Dhabi whilst the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications has signed a contract with the Zaropozhye Institute of Economics and Information Technology, in the Ukraine, to allow graduates to enrol on their new 'Information Technology in e-Commerce' MSc. The University attracted experts from all over the world to its Bradford campus when the Department of Archaeological Sciences held its 5th Biennial Short Course in Human Skeletal Palaeopathology. Participants travelled from as far afield as New Zealand and Washington for the course. Meanwhile, Practice Manager of the Eye Clinic, Anthea Goddard, made a trip of a different kind when she helped to test the eyes of patients in Swaziland. News & Views is always on
the lookout for more research and other stories from departments. Contact
