Anne White with the Vice-Chancellor.Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Teaching

Senior Lecturer in Spanish Studies and Director of Postgraduate Courses in Media and Cultural Studies, Dr Anne White, was recently awarded the Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Anne is delighted to have been nominated by her students for the award.

She said: "I think it is important that this award acts as formal recognition of the vital contribution that quality teaching makes to the student experience. Enthusiastic and committed staff are crucial to the continued success of the University as an institution and we also have a central role to play in helping to inspire the next generation of educators."

Anne enjoys challenging her students to think again about the everyday cultural phenomena that surround them. Her research interests are wide-ranging and she has written papers on many aspects of contemporary European popular culture, ranging from Basque cinema to David Beckham's haircuts.

She added: "Last year I heard from six of my former students who were all about to start language PGCEs or are currently teaching Spanish. That gives me an immense sense of achievement, knowing that I succeeded in communicating my love of Spanish language and culture to them. I'm sure that they will go on to do the same."
