'Bradford Born and Bred' is a photographic display of work by local talent Joanne Crowther and combines images of people and places from in and around Bradford with those from the artist's travels to Europe, North Africa and America. Portraits from 'Faces of Bradford', the photographer's first major solo exhibition, will be shown alongside work recently exhibited at the Lever Fabergé premises in Port Sunlight. Joanne said: "The show tells of the rich and diverse tableau that is human life. Some of the photographs depict the influence of modern urbanity, whilst others portray a nostalgic view of the city of Bradford. Also included are images of cafés and street scenes from European cities such as Paris, Prague, Budapest and Vienna and the energetic city of New York. "Great photographers such as Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, André Kertesz and closer to home, Don McCullan, have been great influences and have inspired me to go out and take pictures of normal everyday life and portray it with a sense of beauty, dignity and interest." One of the photographs included in the exhibition is "Ghostly Heads", which attracted much media attention in 1998. Visitors to the exhibition can see for themselves if the photograph taken at Mount Royd, one night in late Autumn 1997, really does portray two ethereal heads.
