The University of Bradford has achieved institution-wide Fairtrade status - making more ethically-sound food and drink choices available for its staff and students. The University has been working on various projects over the past year to work towards achieving Fairtrade Status, which will be presented to the University by the Vice-Chancellor on Monday, 11th December. Recent projects have included ‘The Fair-Trade Challenge’ - a week-long diet that consisted entirely of Fairtrade food, and a ‘Fairtrade Fashion Show’ featuring outfits made from entirely ethical and environmentally friendly clothing. Graham Hill, Chair of the University’s Catering Committee, was instrumental in the award of Fairtrade status. He said: “We are delighted to have achieved Fairtrade status from the Fairtrade Foundation. “The University and the city of Bradford are working together to promote the benefits of Fairtrade to citizens, staff and students alike. We are providing Fairtrade choice when purchasing a range of products on all campuses including Fairtrade tea, coffee, snacks and a range of other items.” For more information about Fairtrade visit www.fairtrade.org.uk (external link, will open in a new window) 8 December 2006 |
