| The University of Bradford
will be awarding honorary degrees during ceremonies on Wednesday 6, and
Thursday 7 December 2006 to the following people:
- Martin Havenhand, former Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward
- Sir Alistair Graham, Chair of the Committee on Standards in Public
Life
- David Taylor, former Associate Dean of the University’s School
of Management
- Neal Ascherson, journalist and author
- Madan Showan, founder and Chairman of Empire Direct Plc, Bradford
- David Mallen, Chair of the Education Policy Partnership Board in
Bradford
Honorary graduates will receive their awards during degree ceremonies
which will take place in the University’s Great Hall, Richmond Building,
on the main campus of the University.
Professor Chris Taylor, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford,
said: “As our 40th Anniversary draws to a close,
I am delighted to announce such an array of distinguished individuals
that will be made honorary graduates of the University.
“Their achievements are an impressive testament to their talents,
and they reflect and embody the interests and objectives of the University
of Bradford.”

Martin Havenhand
Martin will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for his contribution
to the development of Yorkshire and Humberside as Chief Executive of
Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency.
Martin will be available for photographs and interviews at 9.30am.
Sir Alistair Graham
Sir Alistair will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for
his varied and distinguished contributions to public life including
his work as a member and Chair of the Committee on Standards in Public
Life, former Chair of the Police Complaints Authority and Chairman of
the Parades Commission for Northern Ireland.
Sir Alistair will be available for photographs and interviews at 11.30am.
David Taylor
David, from Baildon in Bradford, will be made an honorary Master of
Arts for his distinctive and varied contributions as a member of academic
staff of the University of Bradford and its predecessor institution
between 1964 and 2005. In particular, for his achievements as Associate
Dean of Collaborative Provision at the School of Management and in recognition
of the extent to which the collaborative provision programmes offered
by the School have flourished, both in reputation and size, whilst under
his stewardship.
David will be available for photographs and interviews at 1.45pm.
Neal Ascherson
Neal will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters for his distinguished
contributions as a journalist and author.

Madan Showan
Madan will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for his achievements
as founder and Chairman of Empire Direct Plc, Bradford, and also in
recognition of the personal support which he has given to many major
international charities.
Madan will be available for photographs and interviews at 9.30am.
David Mallen
David, originally from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, will be made an
honorary Doctor of Education for his contributions to education management,
particularly in his role as Chief Executive of the ILEA, County Education
Officer in East Sussex and, more recently, as Chair of the Education
Policy Partnership Board in Bradford.
David will be available for photographs and interviews at 11.15am.
