A team of staff and students from the University of Bradford’s School of Engineering, Design & Technology (EDT) will be demonstrating how to turn fat into fuel over the next couple of weeks. The team will be showing students from across England how to turn cooking fat into fuel in a highly interactive workshop and pupils will be given the chance to take part in hands-on eco activities. There will also be samples of soap made as a by-product from the production of bio diesel which has been made from used cooking oil. Schools taking part are:
Jack Bradley, a lecturer in Manufacturing Systems at the University said, "The environment is very important to the University of Bradford and we feel this is a great opportunity to share ideas on what pupils can do for the planet whilst saving them money. "The team are ready to have their brains picked on how these energy saving devices can be used in their homes. We hope by doing the workshops pupils will realise just how easy it is to make a difference." EDT has been awarded funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering's Ingenious programme to run these outreach workshops for schools with an ‘Eco’ theme and to build a production plant for the production of biodiesel from cooking oil.
