TEXT MESSAGING USED TO PROMOTE THE UNIVERSITY OF BRADFORD

Students waiting for their A-level results will be getting an unusual message from the University of Bradford. All students waiting for their A-level results, and who have a conditional offer from the University, and have a mobile phone, will receive a text message containing a good luck greeting. The message will read: Hoping 4 gr8 results Thursday :-) frm bfd uni, www.bradford.ac.uk

The campaign is being co-ordinated by the University's Head of Cybernetics, Internet and Virtual Systems, Dr John Baruch, pictured right with current Cybernetics students. Dr Baruch said: "Bradford is at the leading edge of technology and innovation. Text messaging our potential students is part of Bradford embracing the future. "Mobile phones are an integral part of the youth culture and we mean to demonstrate that the University is in touch with students. It's also great to be able to offer individual greetings of good luck at what is a difficult time for many young people."

Students will receive the messages on Monday, August 13, in the run up to the results, which will be announced on Thursday, August 16.

To help students choose their courses, the University has launched a new website, which includes advice, information and reassurance on University places. It includes case studies and tips from students who have been through the Clearing process, together with information on open days, course listings and links to Departmental sites. It also includes a useful list of contacts for more information and details on the University and what it offers.

Open Days will be held at the University on: Saturday, August 18; Sunday, August 19; Wednesday, August 22; and Saturday, August 25, from 10am until 3.30pm.
