University of Bradford: Advance information for International Students

Registration

Registering on your course

We will send you details of registration procedures in August. All new students will register on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 20, 21 or 22 September 2000. (A few postgraduate courses have earlier starting dates, but the course organisers will tell you if you are required to register on a different date from that stated above.)

It is best if new research students can also register at the beginning of the academic year in September, though there is more flexibility here. If you have to start your research at some time other than at the end of September your Department will make arrangements for you to register.

Registering with the Police

If you are required to register with the police your passport stamp will carry the message 'The holder is required to register at once with the police'. If you have brought your family to the UK you should check the stamp in each passport.

All those required to register must do so in person within seven days. If you are staying elsewhere in the UK before coming to Bradford, you should register at the nearest police station within seven days of your arrival in the UK. You must then report your change of address to the West Yorkshire Police within seven days of your arrival in Bradford.

If you travel directly to Bradford during 'Welcome Week' you have the opportunity to register at the police registration session held at the University. The police registration team is on campus for one day during 'Welcome Week'. If you fail to attend that session or arrive at the University at any other time during the year you will be required to travel to the West Yorkshire Police registration point at the address below:

The Immigration and Nationality Department
Brotherton House
Grace Street
Westgate
Leeds
LS1 2RS

Tel: +44 113 241 4168/9 (outside UK)
0113 241 4168/9 (inside UK)

When registering with the police you should take:

You will be required to pay the registration fee of £34.

You must renew your registration every time an extension of your permission to stay in Britain is granted (there is no charge for renewal of your registration when an extension is granted).

If you change address you must inform the police within seven days. If you change your conditions of stay in the UK (including marriage, obtaining a new passport or changing a prohibition on employment to a restriction) you must inform the police within eight weeks of a change being made.

If you are required to register with the police you must do so - failure to comply is a criminal offence and can lead to prosecution
