Introduction

I am writing at an exciting and hopeful time for this University. Not only do we have a new Millennium to look forward to, and the challenges which that will present to higher education, but we move forward into that new era with pleasing results which give us the confidence that we at Bradford are building on secure foundations for the research and teaching of the institution of the future.

As a University we have today to deliver even better results against greater competition and it is vital that we plan with flexibility and speed; the new Units, whose heads have responsibility for all planning and resourcing matters within their areas, will underpin this strategy.
