Richard Woodcock, Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Electronic Imaging and Media Communications (EIMC), took part in the development of the Digital Imaging Gallery in the £13 million redevelopment of the Bradford-based National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.
Richard was asked to produce the storyline for the gallery - the text which explains the different aspects of the exhibition.
EIMC and the Museum collaborate in teaching the EIMC degree courses, and are partners in the Europe-funded VPARK project, which involves the design and creation of a distributed virtual amusement park.
The challenge for Richard was to produce text for state-of-the-art exhibits that would explain complex technical systems in a language easily understood by a typical visitor to the museum.
The storyline covers three major dimensions: digital-imaging technologies, the uses to which the technologies are put, and their social and cultural impact. Richard said: "There was an added complication because the text accompanying a specific exhibit has to stand alone as well as form part of the development of the gallery's overall storyline."
