The Student Loan is available to most full time undergraduate "home" (i.e. U.K.) students.
Students who are studying Physiotherapy or Radiography are eligible for a loan.
Nursing diploma students, postgraduate, E.U. students, and international students are not eligible.
Students with full refugee status are eligible for a student loan. (Documentary evidence required).
Migrant workers, their spouses and children may be eligible for a loan under specified conditions.
If you are still not sure if you are eligible, please ask at Student Information Service.
The Student Loans Company (SLC) is a non-departmental public body and a limited company owned by the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, and the Secretary of State for Scotland. It was set up in 1989, as a non-profit making organisation, specifically to administer the Student Loans Scheme on behalf of the UK Government. At its Glasgow headquarters, the company employs some 360 people in its Loan Administration Customer Services and Support Departments.
The Government decides the level of loan available each year.
The loan for the final year is less than for previous years, as you are not considered to be studying for a full year.
Students who live at home are eligible for a reduced rate loan.
N.B. Regulations for students who began their course after September 1998 differ from those who began before that time:
If you are studying Radiography, Physiotherapy, or a Nursing diploma we suggest you look at the NHS booklet - "Financial Help for Health Care Students". This booklet is available from Student Information Service.
