Working in partnership with parents/carers
Parents/carers are the children's first and most enduring educators.
When parents/carers and practitioners work together in early year's settings,
the results have a positive impact on the child's development and learning.
Therefore, each setting has a responsibility to develop an effective partnership
with parents/carers. A successful partnership needs a two-way flow of
information, knowledge and expertise.
We aim to build a trusting and positive relationship with our parents/carers
as this will help the child to feel safe and secure within the setting.
All families are important and should be welcomed and valued in all settings.
A welcoming atmosphere with approachable staff helps create effective
communication. Parents and practitioners have a lot to learn from each
other. This can help them to support and extend children's learning and
development.
Working in partnership with parents/carers policy
- All parents/carers are made to feel welcome and valued.
- Practitioners show respect and understanding for the role of the
parent/carer in their child's care and education.
- The past and future part played by parents/carers in their child’s
education is recognised and encouraged.
- Parents/carers are given the opportunity to discuss their child’s
circumstances, interests, skills and needs.
- Practitioners listen to parents/carers accounts of their child’s
development, and any concerns they may have.
- Arrangements for settling in are flexible enough to give time for
children to become secure and happy in Nursery.
- Many children have a home language other than English. Practitioners
should value this linguistic diversity and provide opportunities for
children to use their home language in their play and learning whenever
possible.
- The knowledge and expertise of parents/carers and other family adults
are used to support the learning opportunities provided in Nursery.
- Practitioners use a variety of ways to keep parents/carers fully informed
about Nursery routines, curriculum etc… through using brochures,
newsletters, displays, and informal discussions.
- Practitioners share information with parents/carers about the child's
progress and achievements on a regular basis.
- Experiences from home are used to develop learning in Nursery, e.g.
visits, celebrations.
- Parents/carers are welcomed into nursery to share their expertise
with the children e.g. cooking, story time, gardening etc.
- Parent/carers are encouraged to participate in nursery open days,
parties, concerts, graduation, fund raising, and trips etc.
- Parents/carers are encouraged to use the nursery library and feedback
about their child's involvement with the books/games at home.
