Martyn Fisher BSc (Hons) Business Studies (1976)
I graduated from Bradford in 1976 with a BSc Business Studies (1st Class) and then joined Touche Ross in Bristol as an auditor. I then transferred to Auckland, New Zealand office in 1980 initially in Audit, and subsequently in Accounting & Advisory. I became a partner in 1984 and took responsibility for Auckland Human Resources and National Training functions
After a merger between Deloitte & Touche, I moved to the Deloitte Asia Pacific office in Hong Kong in 1991 as Regional HR & Operations Director reporting to the Regional Partner. In 1996 I transferred to the Deloitte Global Office in New York as Director of Global Human Resources (96-2000) and then as Director of Global Strategic Client Programmes (2001-2003).
After a number of health issues, I decided to make an early retirement decision in favour of a more active and healthy lifestyle, and returned to NZ in 2004.
What are you doing now?
I am now living on a 50 acre lifestyle block near Nelson with my wife Su and enjoying working on a native restoration project in our QE2 convenanted bush area. In making this lifestyle change I have "traded" my frequent flyer cards for a ride-on mower, my laptop for a chainsaw, a global team for 2 dogs, and have reduced my golf handicap by 7 shots to a more respectable level!
What were your career highlights?
The highlights of my career with Deloitte & Touche were;
- my "people" roles in New Zealand
- the opportunity to help develop and grow the emerging market practices in Asia Pacific
- being part of the firms' globalisation drive.
What do you remember about your time at the University?
I have fond memories of my time at Bradford and would love to hear from any other alums that remember me.
