In recent years there have been significant developments in the fields of both archaeological science and forensic science, and an increasing awareness of the synergies between the two subjects. BSc Forensic and Archaeological Science has as its focus the relationship between archaeological science and forensic science and emphasises the application of science based research to the both disciplines. This programme of study provides the student with a sound knowledge of how scientific techniques can be used within both forensic and archaeological investigations, and allows students to explore scientific applications in either or both areas. The course will meet the increasing demand for professionals with scientific skills to work with areas such as crime scene investigation and related areas. It will also allow students to apply this understanding to the study, preservation and interpretation of the human past.
Teaching during each academic year is divided into two 15 week semesters. If you are taking the course on a full time basis, the taught part lasts for three years with the option of a Placement year where you can gain relative work experience. As part of the course you will be expected to take part in an archaeological fieldwork lasting no less than 3 weeks, this usually takes place during the summer vacation at the end of your first year.
