The Dales & the Surrounding Area

For people who want to escape city life, the magnificent surrounding countryside is just touching distance away.

There is the rugged gritstone wildness of the Pennines, the Yorkshire Moors and the Derbyshire Peak District; the limestone delights of the Yorkshire Dales, and the gentility of spa towns such as Ilkley, Harrogate and Knaresborough.

This is countryside made famous by the Brontes of Howarth (8 miles away), and more recently by the television series 'Last of the Summer Wine', 'Where the Heart Is' and 'Emmerdale'.

If you enjoy walking, climbing, or just sitting in rugged isolation then Bradford is the ideal base camp.

"One of the best things about Bradford is that it is accessible. The surrounding villages are beautiful too and there is some outstanding architecture. The moors are very close by and definitely worth a visit and there are some very nice parks to visit during the day. You can hear lots of genres of music in the evening, and there are loads of good places to eat and drink near campus"
