New. From Dr Judi Sture, The Graduate School

Could colleagues please take care not to confuse The Graduate School with Graduate Registry.

We are receiving an increasing number of calls and items in the post and email which are for Graduate Registry. These include issues to do with student fees, University registration, invoices, visas, submission of theses, external examiner reports and so on. Some of these items are urgent and important, and this confusion may be causing delays to students. The confusion seems to have become worse since The Graduate School moved to Phoenix NE.

Previously, we shared offices with Graduate Registry, and this gave the impression that we are all the same unit. We are not! It would help if everyone remembered that The Graduate School is providing research training, and Graduate Registry is involved in registering students and managing thesis submissions.

New. Intellectual Blue Plaques in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES)

The Times Higher is looking to put together a series of articles on places where the greatest ideas, experiments and debates in university history occurred.

This would, each week, focus on a different story of a significant moment in intellectual life that is linked to a particular location - a laboratory, lecture theatre or office on campus. They could be offbeat as well as truly momentous - so long as their readers would acknowledge the significance of the event and so long as it is tied to an actual physical location.

Suggestions from any members of staff are welcome. Please forward suggestions with details to Oliver Tipper in the Press Office at o.tipper@bradford.ac.uk

Thank you.
