New. Open Day - 9th March (http://www.bradford.ac.uk/openday)

This Wednesday (9th March) the University will be holding a general Open Day from 11.00am - 6.00pm. This event is for both prospective Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. Research from last October's Open Day has shown that 53% of visitors who had not applied before attending have gone on to make an application to the University. So these events are a big influence and your help is greatly appreciated.

A few extra notes:

  • Our own Undergraduates

Any member of staff who teaches final year undergraduates or has contact with them is asked to encourage them to attend the Postgraduate part of the Open Day in the Richmond Building and to register in the Richmond Foyer.

  • Catering

On the main campus both Chesham Strollers and Jazzmans will be open from 8.00am - 4.00pm, and may be less busy alternatives to facilities in the Richmond Building.

  • Car parking

It is expected that the University car parks will be busy for the Open Day.The overflow car park, opposite the Peel pub, will be reserved for Open Day visitors only. To help reduce the number of cars needing parking on the main campus, staff are encouraged to do one of the following suggestions:

- car share for the day
- use public transport for the day.
Details available at http://www.wymetro.com/ (external site, will open in a new browser window)
- park at the Laisteridge Lane site, behind Dennis Bellamy and Revis Barber Halls rather than on the main campus

Staff who have a reserved car park space who will not be requiring their space on Wednesday can help optimise space by contacting Mick Habergham on ext: 4897 or m.habergham@bradford.ac.uk.

Thanks

Kevin Spencer, Marketing Officer (Campaigns)

New. Arts on Campus this week

Theatre in the Mill - www.bradford.ac.uk/theatre

* I Have Never
Friday 11 and Saturday 12 March | 7.30pm
£4.50/£3.00

"Paramnesia and confabulation - These are errors and illusions in memory and their reproduction. They may consist of: treatment of fantasies as genuine events; belief that events similar to a unique event have previously occurred (reduplication of memory); or belief that an event identical to a previous event has previously occurred (déjà vu). Whilst all remembering depends heavily on reconstruction rather than on mere reproduction alone, confabulation is a highly error-prone form of production of spurious memories and fabrications."

Do you listen to others, or are you just waiting to speak?

Bradford University Theatre Group present a devised play based upon the pathology of memories and a pub drinking game. What have you never done? Or will never do?

Tasmin Little Music Centre - www.bradford.ac.uk/music

Wednesday 9 March | 12.15pm
Imani Hekima
Entrance vestibule to the Richmond Foyer | Free

Bradford-based Imani Hekima is one of the most promising artists to emerge from the North for some time. He embarked upon a solo career as a singer/songwriter in 1999 and has played a number of gigs in and around Yorkshire.

His "nu soul" sound combines a thoughtful vocal delivery with soulful musical settings and keenly observational lyrics. Imani's songs exude warmth and maturity.

*Andrew Whamond - Retrospective

Friday 4 March - Friday 15 April 2005
Weekdays 11am-5pm (except Thursdays until 6pm) | free

"Each of my works seeks to identify and isolate a particular aspect of what it is to be human, and to intensify that perceived state through the process of painting, intertwining elements of personal history into a symbolic language of the body.

"Every work is a representational painting of an abstract emotion, visualised using one or more experienced situations drawn from memory, but sometimes using empirical sources to fulfil the emotional resonance of the subject."

Andrew Whamond This exhibition is presented with the aim of showing the development of, and the engagement with, the subject over a period of years,1984-2005.

New. Notifications of Works

Restriction of access to Richmond Road and the main entrance of the Richmond Building

Friday 18th to Wednesday 23rd March 2005

Yorkshire Water services Ltd are currently carrying out a programme of refurbishment to the water distribution mains in the area of the University campus. The first stage of these works will be the relining of the water main, which lies underneath Richmond Road. This will have no impact on the water supplies to any University building but will restrict the access through the security barriers at each end of Richmond Road.

The entrance to Richmond Road from Great Horton Road will be restricted to cars and small vans only.

The lower entrance at the Tumbling hill Street, Richmond Road Junction will be closed and will be an exit only for the period of the works.

These works will require the excavation of deep pits at each entrance; Staff and students are requested to respect the barriers which will be erected for their own safety.

Please contact: Keith Maven, Mechanical Maintenance Officer on ext 3437, if you have any queries regarding these works

School of Management
