A Big Thank You

To everyone who helped in the organisation and running of the Open Day which took place on Saturday.

The day was a huge success and would not have been so without the help, support and generosity of all staff throughout the University. We are currently compiling a document, which will include visitor numbers and comments, and this will be circulated in due course.

Thanks again.

Insight Plus at the University of Bradford

Hopefully you will be aware of the Insight Plus programme that is running at the University of Bradford. As well as being an ideal forum for students to develop skills, there is also an opportunity for staff members to act as mentors.

InsightPlus is a distance-mentoring programme lasting six months (with 3 days of face-to-face elements, one of which is a day's mentor training). The mentees are undergraduate students who are in part-time work or other extra-curricular activities and who develop their employability through reflection on their current work or voluntary experience.

Students work towards an Institute of Leadership and Management certificate, which accredits this learning and is recognised by many employers.

The mentors facilitate 3 -4 mentees each to whom they will probably need to dedicate a ½ hour a week. For more information, see the two pdf files below.

There is currently the opportunity for staff within the University to become a mentor, the benefits of which are:

  • A full day of mentor training (held locally in October)
  • The option to work towards an Institute of Leadership & Management accredited qualification
  • A valuable training opportunity which fits in and around existing work commitments

More information on Insight Plus can be found via the web: www.insightplus.co.uk
