Staff Survey Focus Group meeting invitation

You are invited to take part in a focus group on 13 December at either 9.30am or 2.30pm for 2 hours. This focus group is to assist the group working on the results of the Staff Survey that took place at Easter this year. The group would appreciate some help in exploring possible actions that could be implemented in 2003 to improve some of the areas where the Staff Survey recorded low satisfaction ratings. Some of you have already let us know that you would be interested to take part following the distribution of Survey results in the summer.

The focus groups on the 13th will be facilitated by an external consultant, Henrie Lidiard, who will listen to the views of the staff who attend, and record ideas and suggestions as they emerge. All views will remain confidential. Any staff who wish to express a view but are not able to attend one of the meetings are welcome to provide feedback by e-mail to Pete Sayers (p.l.sayers@bradford.ac.uk) or by anonymous post to the Staff Development Unit.

The focus groups will look at the following issues:

  • what people mean when they say the University rewards bad behaviour and doesn't deal with poor performance
  • how staff would recognise effective management of change and how staff would recognise clear leadership and decision making
  • issues related to reward systems - what scope the University has to improve its reward system and fairly reward staff for performance and responsibilities
  • what action senior management could take to deal with issues relating to workloads

Please e-mail staffdev@bradford.ac.uk if you would like to be involved in one of the meetings and indicate which one you would like to attend. The venue will be available when you notify us of your attendance.

Your views would be appreciated.

Donate a book

UNISON are collecting children's books for Community HEART to send to disadvantaged children in South Africa. Books are in desperately short supply in South Africa, where English is the language of education. About 20,000 schools are struggling to educate 10 million pupils with no libraries and very few books.

Community HEART are a charity supporting self-help projects in South Africa. Donate a book and UNISON will pay the cost of postage and shipping to South Africa. Books can be fun as well as educational, but must be in a reasonable condition, they should be up-to-date, well illustrated, and accurate, not be so culturally specific that they are inappropriate for South African children and must not be racist or sexist.

Bring your book(s) to the D floor Foyer (opposite cashiers office), 12.00pm - 2.30pm, on Friday 13th of December and join us for a cup of coffee and a mince pie. Information regarding UNISON and the benefits of membership will also be available.

If you would like to donate books but cannot attend on Friday 13th December please drop them into Dominic or Susan in the Career Development Services (Communal Building).
