3-2-1: The Countdown has Started

When the staff briefing was launched, it was also made available on-line via the University's web-site at www.brad.ac.uk/briefing. In three weeks time we will be providing a summary of the briefing and links to all the details via an electronic mail message. This will automatically be sent to all staff who have an active electronic mail account - you do not need to subscribe to this service as it will be done on your behalf. Don't worry if you don't have e-mail - we will continue to send out a paper copy to you. Our aim is to convert as many people as possible to the electronic distribution but we recognise that this may take time.

Any queries email: briefing@bradford.ac.uk.

For all staff

Staffing the Clearing Helpline, from Helen Crabtree Staff Development

The Clearing Helpline is staffed by people from Marketing and Corporate Communications and by volunteers from across the University in a maximum of 4 hour stints. Each volunteer does one or two stints. Up to 40 staff will be required to assist with the Helpline on 16 and 17 August 2001.

If you are interested in staffing the Helpline, we invite you to attend a 1 day course on either Friday 22 June, Wednesday 11 July or Friday 13 July 2001. Lunchtime briefings are also available on all 3 days for those who have undertaken training/been involved in the Helpline previously. The purpose of this one day training course is to prepare those staff who deal with telephone enquiries from potential students during the period immediately after the A-level results come out, and to make sure that potential students and their parents get the highest possible quality of service from the University. The Helpline training is designed to give such staff the information and preparation they need to be able to deal with phone enquiries effectively. The training provides information about the courses the University is recruiting students to and practice in answering and dealing with different types of callers. If you are available to take part in the Helpline on 16 & 17 August 2001, then the training will form an enjoyable and useful preparation and leave you very well informed about the courses the University offers across the range of its academic departments.

If you would like to attend one of the training courses or lunchtime briefings, please either call us on ext. 3102, e-mail us at: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk, or complete the on-line booking form at: www.brad.ac.uk/admin/staffdev/whatson/booking.html

For Research Supervisors

Research Report Writing, Reporting Strategies for First & Second Year PhD Students, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development

Tuesday 10 July, 2001 - Graduate School

RESEARCH SUPERVISORS - would you please pass this information to your research student(s)? Thanks!

This new course has been specially devised for research students approaching the stage where they intend to transfer from MPhil to PhD track. A copy of the outline programme can be downloaded from: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/ResReportprog.pdf

A limited number of places will be available for the Pilot Version of this new programme, to be presented in the Graduate School on 10 July. These places will be allocated to research students in the first or second year of their programme (or the equivalent for part-time research students) on a first-come, first-served basis. A further Research Report Writing course will be presented later in 2001 and again in mid-2002 (depending on demand). Once a place has been allocated, the student has a moral obligation to attend - except where prior notification has been given to the organisers at least a week beforehand, so that other students may be given an opportunity to participate.

To apply, please either call us on ext. 3102, e-mail us at: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk, or complete the on-line booking form at: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/Form.html
