General University notices

New. Telephony Software Upgrade

A major upgrade to the University telephone system will take place, commencing Friday evening 16th December 2005. The system will go down at 5pm for approximately 5 hours; no incoming or outgoing calls will be possible during this time and the voicemail service will also be unavailable. Security Services will be provided with corporate mobiles for emergency use during this period - the mobile numbers are as follows:

07769 885972 (Richmond Building)

07747 476107 (School of Management)

07748 624120 (School of Health)

Saturday 17th December will be reserved for testing; the system will be up and running but may well have short periods of downtime during the day as we test a variety of telephony functions. First business day in service will be Monday 19th December, when telephone engineers will be on site to resolve any problems that were not immediately apparent over the weekend - please report any faults to ICT Servicedesk on ext: 3333 or email ictservicedesk@bradford.ac.uk

As part of the upgrade process, all telephony data was backed up (and frozen) on Monday 5th December. Please note, only imperative moves, changes and additions to the telephone system are currently taking place. The backup data will be reloaded on Saturday 17th December and any moves, changes and additions that have gone ahead during the intervening fortnight, will also be re-input at this time.

IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR PLANNING UNIT/DEPARTMENT WILL REQUIRE NEW EXTENSIONS, MOVES OR CHANGES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, PLEASE CONTACT ICT SERVICEDESK IMMEDIATELY ON EXT 3333 OR EMAIL ICTSERVICEDESK@BRADFORD.AC.UK

With regard to voicemail, there is a risk that any saved messages may well be lost during the upgrade process. We advise all voicemail users to make a written note of any important messages prior to 5pm on Friday 16th December.

With apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Roger M Goodair
Telecoms & Network Support Manager
