Lecturing, teaching and support staff can now apply for the revised individual awards. Successful applicants will receive an individual salary
increment, £5,000 to spend upon a learning/teaching project, and will be considered for nomination to the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS).

As we are using the NTFS criteria and these have only recently been confirmed, the deadline for applications is tight this year - March 9th.
Student nominations are no longer required.

New. Semester Dates 2006/7 - 2011/12

The Senate, at its meeting on 30th November 2005, approved a new pattern of Semester dates for the University. The current dates are due to expire at the end of the 2006/07 academic session, however, it was agreed that the new semester dates should be implemented as soon as possible. The new model will, therefore, take effect one year early, from the 2006/07 academic session.

New. 2 for 1 offer for staff at Theatre in the Mill

Thursday 16th February & Friday 17th February, 7.30pm
"Fair" By Joy Wilkinson
£6.50/£4

A fascinating play about two young people a BNP racist thug and a solitary female student locked into an intense relationship in a Northern English town. This was a play that has something important to say about the battle between sentimental nationalism and outward-looking multiculturalism . . .

Burnley writer, Joy Wilkinson, confronts the racism brewing in Britain’s northern towns and beyond. What’s turning young people to the right? How and why are the BNP managing to recruit?

Book tickets on ext: 3200 or email: r.price@bradford.ac.uk and quote "Staff Briefing Offer".

New. RoamNet expansion news

RoamNet is the advanced open-access computer network at the University of Bradford. It is provided by LSS with some funding from the e-Strategy and University Schools. Anyone with a valid university, JANET Roaming Service (aka eduroam), or RoamNet-only visitor username and password can access RoamNet with any suitable computer. This can be a personally-owned computer or PDA, it does not have to be university-owned equipment.

RoamNet connections are available in either wireless or wired network variations depending on the location. The number of locations have been
increasing over the last few months. Details of where RoamNet is available, along with everything else you might want to know about the service, can be found in the newly-updated RoamNet FAQ which is at http://www.brad.ac.uk/lss/it-services/support/roamnet.php

New. No such thing as a good appraisal?

Tell us about it!

The University Staff Survey told us that 70% of staff are having appraisals, which is great, but less than half those who had an appraisal considered that it helped to improve your performance. Please come along to one of the sessions below prepared to tell us about your experience of appraisals and what you would like to get out of your appraisal. Lunch will be provided.

Please email n.carter@bradford.ac.uk stating which of the sessions below you would like to attend and any special dietary requirements:

22 February at 12.30 N7 Richmond

Works on Campus

New. Longside Halls

For your information, the Periodic Inspection and Testing of the fixed wiring is to be carried out in the Longside Halls of Residences (Blocks A to M), this will involve the inspection and testing of every electrical circuit within each block.

The work will commence provisionally on Wednesday 15th February 2006 in Longside Hall A Block and progress alphabetically through to M Block. This work is expected to be completed by Friday 10th March 2006. Each block will take approximately one and a half days, depending on access to student rooms.

Whilst the work is being carried out, the various areas under test will be without electricity for periods of time.

The occupants of the building will be given prior notice of these periods of time. I would ask the occupants of the areas under test to switch off and unplug their equipment prior to the commencement of testing.

There is a possibility that the heating and ventilation systems and other services within the building could be affected whilst this work is being carried out.

Any inconvenience to the occupants of the building will be kept to a minimum.

Should you have any queries regarding this work, will you please direct them to either of the following people: -

Mr G Simpson Electrical Maintenance Officer Ext. 3431
Mr C Overton Electrical Supervisor Ext. 3425
